Border Control.....

Ah don't you just LOVE it when you reach that stage in a project when it's time to decide on what border will suit said project????

Well that's where I'm at right now! OK, that's not exactly true. I'm a little bit past that stage! I've had a weekend of frantically joining and have managed to make a start on the border :-)

I just love how this blanket is turning out! I decided on a double crochet, chain 1, double crochet joining technique. I felt this gave a lovely solid edge to the squares. It might look a little bumpy in the  photograph but once blocked it will settle down nicely :-)

The border was a little trickier to decide on! I have to admit to ripping it back THREE times before I was happy. I've decided on a mix from different sources with lots of adaptations. There will be some nice rows of easy peasy stitch combinations and I'm planning to finish with a lacy edge. Well that's the plan anyway!!!

I'm having a mad hooky time trying to get it finished and blocked so that I can take some lovely TA DAH!!! photos at the weekend. Please pray for good weather ;-)

So to recap. I am using Invicta Colour (shades 968 and 960) and Invicta Extra (shade 1466) both are made by Sheepjeswol. I'm using a 4mm hook just because I'm a tight hooker :-) The recommended hook size is 3mm!

Invicta Colour is now available from Deramores :-) So far I've used 300g of each of the Invicta Colours and 350g of the Invicta Extra.

Once it's finished I shall give finished quantities and I'll measure the blanket for you.
Til next time!

Progress....

Well! Since I returned from my lovely break in Holland my feet don't seem to have touched the ground! Busy, busy busy!!!
Work has been crazy busy and I've been out and about practising my photography skills. It's still work in progress but I can definitely see improvements!

I have been squeezing in some hooky time....honest!!! My Scheepjeswol Invicta blanket is almost joined!

Whenever I got the chance I've been joining, joining, joining....

I started joining using a zig zag method but was not happy at all with the effect so ripped it all out and started again! Such a gorgeous delicate square needed something quite solid to show it off to it's full advantage I thought.

The colours are just stunning in this yarn! It's Invicta Colour and edged with Invicta Extra.

I always join in the same order (Virgo!!!)...I lay out all the squares, put them in little piles so I know which order and then start the joining process. Because this is quite a solid join it's taking longer than usual but I'm really pleased with how it's looking so far.

The Vivid Green is making all the other colours POP!!!!

Have you heard the latest news???? Deramores has started to stock a range of Scheepjeswol yarns!!! I am soooo pleased :-) It now means that hookers outside Holland can now get their hands on the yummy yarns! Go check it out! I've been lucky enough to use all the yarns they have in stock and I can't recommend them highly enough!

Til next time!

Invicta joy....

Ah I am absolutely LOVING making this blanket :-) This yarn is a total and utter joy to work with.
I think I shall be very sad when it's finished hahaha!

To remind you.... this is Invicta Colour and Invicta Extra from Scheepjeswol.
I'm using colours 960 and 968 in the colour and a gorgeous vivid green which is 1466 in the extra.

I've found a pattern that showcases the yarn perfectly! It's a nice balance of interesting yet pretty simple to make.

Pretty isn't it? And best of it's a free pattern! Of course, as usual I will be doing a step by step tutorial once the big reveal has happened.

The green around the edges just makes it POP!!!!

I love how one ball of yarn gives you so many different variations. It's great fun seeing all the squares turn out differently.

This is going to be one zingy blanket! I love how the colour changes are so gentle :-)

Just a little word on blocking.... now I know I drone on and on about the importance of blocking your work ;-) But just check out the pic and see the difference for yourself! I know it's boring, but it really does bring the yarn to life. The drape on the blocked squares is lovely!

I try to be organised and block as I go. That way, when I've finished all the squares I'm not sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for the squares to dry!!!!

So far, I've made 68 squares! I'm just keeping going until I run out of yarn. Then let the joining commence!!!

There are times in life....

When nothing hits the spot like some new yarn to fondle, worship and adore.
This is one of those times.
I know I've been a crappy blogger again. I'm duly chastised. In my defence I've had a jammed packed few weeks. A trip to Holland (more of that delight in another post!), some radical gardening stuff....and the usual chestnut that is work.

So enough of my boring excuses. What about this new yarn????
Ooooooh!!! It's good. Like REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD!!!
And I've managed to get my hands on some....well actually quite a lot ;-)

Soooo without further ado....I give you Stone Washed by Scheepjeswol

It's 78% cotton and 22% acrylic, comes in 50g balls which will give you 130m of deliciously soft stone washed yarn. I don't believe there is anything quite like it on the market today. Rumour has it, this yarn sold out on pre orders before it even reached the warehouse! How cool is that? And quite frankly I'm not surprised!

The colours are just beautiful and I seriously can't stress how soft this yarn is.

I was smitten from my first fondle ;-)

The colour palette has been named after semi precious stones and they accurately reflect the soft gentle colours

I think this yarn will be a winner!

It's so unique. And did I mention how soft it is??? Hehehehe....well I'm not fibbing!

So what to make with my precious stash of Stone Washed? Well, I've been experimenting and adapting and I think I may have come up with something that will do this gorgeous yarn justice!
But you're just going to have to wait and see :-)

Til next time when I have some Holland holiday pics to share!
