Shirley Scarf Free Pattern

Happy New Years Eve everyone!
Hope you're all having a peaceful day and if you're celebrating tonight - ENJOY!

I've spent the last 48 hours counting up all of my WIPs and having a teensy meltdown!
I've sorted out my project bags and made an order list.... to be fair.... many of my projects are on the home stretch with not much more work needed. So I'm on a mission to get them finished and blocked.
(Just end weaving in is needed on 2 projects!!!)

Today I'm bring the pattern for my Shirley scarf.
It's easy peesy project that can be made of scraps.... perfect for those end of balls/skeins

I made mine from leftovers from my Dottie cushion. So whilst I'm giving you quantities needed, you can use up your odds and ends! (my stash mountain needs some serious reducing!)

 Ingredients

Yarn: Scheepjes Metropolis (75% Merino Extra Fine 25% Nylon, 50g/200m)
A - 078 Lyon x 1 ball
B - 069 Miami x 1 ball
C - 019 Marseille x 1 ball
D - 076 Sevilla x 1 ball
E - 018 Suwon x 1 ball
F - 075 Mexico City x 1 ball
Scheepjes Mohair Rhythm (70% Mohair 30% Microfibre, 25g/200m)
690 Bop x 2 balls
4.5mm needles (straight or circular would be fine)
Needle to weave in ends
Scissors
Blocking materials

Gauge is not really important for this project! Working with 4.5mm needles will produce a fabric with a lovely drape once blocked.

Finished size when blocked - 25cm x 168cm (10" x 66") approx.

How To

Using a strand of Mohair Rhythm and yarn A held together cast on 57 stitches using your favourite cast on method

Row 1 (RS) k1, p1 to last stitch, k1
Row 2 (WS) k1, p1 to last stitch, k1
These 2 rows form a seed stitch pattern
Repeat these 2 rows twice more (6 rows worked). This is your scarf edge completed.

Now for the main scarf pattern. This consists of a 2 row pattern that is repeated.
For my scarf I designed a simple stripe design that I repeated throughout.  The details are below but feel free to play with colours and stripe variations. As I changed colour, I simply broke off the coloured yarn whilst keeping the Mohair yarn intact and joined in a new colour.

Row 1 (RS) [k1, p1] twice, knit to last 4 stitches, [p1, k1] twice
Row 2 (WS) [k1, p1] twice, purl to last 4 stitches [p1, k1] twice

Border - 6 rows in B
Main pattern: 8 rows in B
8 rows in A
14 rows in F
8 rows in C
4 rows in A
2 rows in B
4 rows in A
8 rows in D
14 rows in E
4 rows in A
2 rows in B
4 rows in A

I repeated this 6 times ending with colour E then worked 8 rows in A, 8 rows in B and finished with 6 rows of seed stitch.
Cast off. Weave in ends and block.

Enjoy!

Shirley Scarf Reveal

Well hello lovely people!
Apologies for the not planned absence.... so much has happened since my last post.
A little trip to Holland for our annual Bloggers weekend, work, an emergency hospital stay (all good now!) and Christmas.
Oh my word.... how can New Years Eve be tomorrow??!!!!!

I've just got time to squeeze in a reveal and a free pattern before we say goodbye to 2019 and hello to 2020.

So without further delay, let me reveal Shirley.... a snuggly knitted scarf that is totally beginner friendly!

Made with Scheepjes Metropolis and Mohair Rhythm held together she knits up quickly.

I had yarn left over from my Dottie cushion so I used that up (trying to make a dent in the stash mountain!).

The Mohair Rhythm gives the finished fabric a lovely halo and it's also lovely and snuggly to wear.
It's very warm!

It's a perfect small project for experimenting with colour combinations....

It has a nice moss stitch border which helps to prevent curling. All very simple.

So, if learning to knit is one of your New Years resolutions... check back tomorrow and the free pattern will be posted!

It's Growing....!

And breathe.....!!!
Hello! Phew....I didn't think I was going to find to give you a little update on my latest project tonight. Time just isn't on my side at the moment. So much to do and soooo little time.
But....there's always time for a little making isn't there?

So. Remember last time when I shared some stash yarn for a cheeky little winter make?

Some left over Scheepjes Metropolis and Mohair Rhythm.
I knew I wanted to make a scarf.... a knitted scarf....and I wanted to use these colours as I love the colour combination. And it also needed to be warm and snuggly as I really feel the cold and love being wrapped up nice and cosy!

I love the effect of mohair held together with another yarn. It changes the whole feel of the fabric and gives a lovely muted finish to the colours. So I cast on and started knitting.
Now I'm not a quick knitter. I'm left handed and have managed to develop a crazy style of knitting that works for me but I'll not win any awards on the speed front!

I decided on a nice repeating strip design with a little bit of moss stitch at the ends to help with the curling!

It's been a fabulous TV project! Something simple and rhythmic to keep my hands busy. I was amazed at how quickly it grew!

I love the marled effect the Mohair Rhythm gives the finished fabric...

I think this photo really highlights the lovely Mohair halo.
I'm just keeping going until I've got a length that I'm happy with....no exact science. That's the beauty of this kind of project.

Now the next question is.....to pom pom or not to pom pom!
Join me next time to find out what I decided 😉

Til then... x

Ziggy Ziggy... the FREE pattern!

Evening!
As promised, tonight I'm going to share the pattern for my Ziggy Ziggy scarf.
It's a pattern that can be adjusted according to your preferred sizing. It's also very suitable for a novice hooker. More experienced hookers will find it a lovely relaxing TV project.
Ingredients
Scheepjes Our Tribe yarn - 2 colours of your choice
(for the blue and green scarf I have used 974 The Curio Crafts Room and 970 Cypress Textiles - 2 of each colour way and for the red and blue scarf I've used 971 Jellina Creations and 969 Lilla Bjorn - 1 ball of each)
Size 4.5mm crochet hook
Scissors
Darning Needle to weave in ends
Blocking materials
How To
Written in UK English Terms
Starting chain is worked in multiples of 13 + 2
For the narrower scarf A I have started with a chain of 80 and scarf, which is a third wider, a starting chain of 119
It is entirely your choice! Make your starting chain using the first of your 2 chosen colours
Starting Row (Still using first colour) In second chain from hook 1dc *5dc, 3dc in next st, 5dc, skip 2 st. Repeat from * to last 2 sts, dc2tog. Turn.
Pattern Row 1ch (counts as 1 dc throughout) 1dc *5dc, 3dc in next st, 5dc, skip 2 st. Repeat from * to last 2 sts, dc2tog. Turn.
Join in your second colour after 2 rows have been worked. You will change colour every 2 rows.
DO NOT BREAK THE YARN! Simply carry it loosely up the side of your work.
You can see on this photo how the yarn looks when carried up the side. I always bring the yarn I'm about to work with to the front and keep the yarn I've just finished with to the back. That way I won't forget and it'll keep everything nice and neat!
Continue working the pattern row and changing colours until your scarf is the desired length.
Fasten off yarns, weave in ends and wet block!

Finished Sizes: My blue scarf measures 158cm x 35cm and took approx. 1.5 balls of each colour. The red scarf measures 148cm x 27cm and took a ball of each colour.
Your scarf is finished and ready to wear!
NB Due to the nature of the zig zag pattern, it will concertina in a little. Tis all fine!

I hope you all have a wonderful, happy and peaceful New Year.
Join me in 2019 for more hooky adventures!

Introducing... Ziggy Ziggy!

Evening!
I found a little time in this crazy month to take some photos of the finished scarves.... we went out and about on a country estate and snapped like crazy! Thankfully the weather was on our side.... no up a mountain shots this time but I do love the photos we managed to get.

Soooo.... as I mentioned in the last post, I made up the scarf in 2 colour ways.
Both using Scheepjes Our Tribe.
Each scarf uses 2 different colour ways... the one on the left is made with Jellina Creations and Lilla Bjorn....and the one on the right is made with Cypress Textiles and The Curio Crafts Room.
I'll share the free pattern tomorrow, but it's very easy to adjust the width and length of both scarves. Ok let's have a little look at each one more closely....

These 2 colour ways work beautifully together and give a nice subtle effect.....
For something a little more bold the second scarf packs a little more punch!

The photo above was taken as the light was more golden....hence the warmer effect!

Join me tomorrow when I'll share the free pattern!

Getting ziggy with it....

Hey! Welcome back for a little WIP update!
My Scheepjes Our Tribe project...
Let's just crack on and look at some photos eh?

I decided on a zig zag design....alternating yarns to give this lovely striped effect.
Stripy zig zags!!!
I love how the colours play with each other....

It's a very relaxing project... perfect for snuggling up in front of the TV with.
The colour changes keep the interest going.....

Before I knew it, I had a lovely finished scarf....

Pinned out on the blocking board you can really appreciate how the two colours work together!

Next time I'll share pics of both the finished scarves together!
They've already done a good job of keeping us warm in the chilly weather.

Squeezing in something new.....

Hi!

Hope you've all been enjoying a wonderful and peaceful Christmas time!
It's been busy here..... lots of making and finishing up projects.
I always do this....leave it til the last minute!
So this is a speeded up last of year project for you all....

Over the next few days I shall share the process of my latest creation. And, of course, there will be grande finale with a free pattern.

If you remember back to THIS post.... I introduced Scheepjes Our Tribe.
A yarn with colour ways chosen by the Scheepjes Bloggers.

I knew I wanted to make something with it...but wasn't quite sure what....so I kept my samples stored safely to one side until inspiration hit!

I love the gentle colour changes in this yarn and decided I wanted to play with the colours a bit and showcase how they can contrast and work together!

I initially chose two colours, Cypress Textiles and The Curio Craft Room.
Both had colours I adore and I was certain they would complement each other nicely!

I did go on to choose another two....to make a second sample....but completely forgot to take photos before I started!!!!

So a bit more about the yarn....

It's mainly Merino Superwash but with some added polyamide to make it a little more hardwearing. It's a single (not plyed) so that can make it a little wiggly....but don't worry as that won't affect the finished item. It's also what I call a sticky yarn! Because it's a single with not a great deal of twist, it's not totally smooth and has some loose fibres that can make ripping back a little tricky....but not impossible with care.

It's super soft and passes the next to neck test with flying colours....which is just as well...as this little lot is destined to be a funky scarf!

Join me tomorrow and I'll share some work in progress photographs....

Tassel Scarf Free Pattern!

Here we go....no step by step for this one but I've added links to some great websites that should help you!
The amount of tassels you add is purely up to you!
Go wild or reign in your tassels 😂😂😂

For my project, I wanted a scarf that would be very warm and snuggly. Because of this I chose to work up the scarf using 2 strands of the yarn. This gave a denser and consequently VERY warm scarf. To achieve a scarf that is lighter you can work using only one strand but bear in mind that working only one strand will gave your scarf a more open weave.

Ingredients

Hip Hop x 200g (8 balls)
Boogie x 25g
Disco x 25g
Charleston x 25g
Cha Cha x 25g
Merengue x 25g

4mm hook
Scissors
Darning Needle (to weave in ends)
Piece of sturdy cardboard/ruler to make tassels (mine was 1.5 inches high which made the same size tassels)

How To

Finished Measurements: Approx. 14 inches (35cm) wide x 75 inches (190cm) long after blocking and not including the tassels!

I have used THIS simple but VERY effective pattern for the scarf designed by the super talented Dedri Uys from Look At What I Made blog.
I'm not going to write out the pattern in full as Dedri has wonderful step by step instructions on her blog!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE WRITTEN IN AMERICAN CROCHET TERMS!!!!!!

So, for your starting chain you will be using 2 strands of Alpaca Rhythm Hip Hop and chaining 60.
Work 14 rows as per instructions and fasten off. Join in Cha Cha and work one row in that colour, fasten off. Join in Hip Hop and work another 14 rows. Fasten off and join in Merengue. Work one row and fasten off.

So basically you are working 14 rows in the main colour and then one row in a contrasting colour.
The colour order is completely up yourself but I have used the following colour order:

Cha Cha, Merengue, Charleston, Boogie and then Disco

Continue with this for 150 rows. Work another 14 rows in Hip Hop and fasten off. Weave in your ends and block to the final size. Blocking opens up the pattern and really makes the stitch pattern sing.

You are now ready to make some tassels!!!!

There are some easy to follow instructions on making tassels all over the internet!
THIS site condenses the process and makes it simple to understand.
With your 1.5 inch board/ruler and still using 2 strands of yarn, wrap the yarn around 25 times. Cut the yarn. Using a darning needle threaded with 2 strands of yarn, thread the yarn underneath the wrapped yarn and secure at one side with a knot. Cut the ends. Secure by wrapping 2 strands of yarn about 1cm from top and tying off. Hide the ties inside the tassel.

I went a bit mad with tassels for my scarf and made 36 in total!!!
I tied them to my scarf using the long strands of yarn as shown in the photo above. One at each end of the stripes of colour and a further 8 tassels to each end of the scarf which were evenly spaced. The ends were woven into each tassel to make a neat finish.

And there you have it! A finished tassel scarf!!!!

The length and width can easily be adjusted to suit your needs.
I hope you like it 😊

Tassel Scarf Reveal

Ok it's not exactly the most original of names...but it's a scarf and it has tassels! Lots of tassels lol
So here it is....

TADAAA!!!!
If you remember from THIS post I chose a rather luxurious yarn for this project. A Scheepjes white label yarn. The white label yarns are the premium range. Not for everyday projects, but definitely worth it for a special make!
Alpaca Rhythm is a lace weight yarn that has 80% Alpaca/20% Extra fine wool content.
It's so very, very skin soft! Which is why I chose it for a scarf.

The sun even managed to make an appearance while I was taking a photo of the finished tassel laden scarf.

I did go a little crazy with the tassels!

But I love how it turned out and it's had lots of wear already. I have a bright green coat that it looks wonderful with!

I added tassels to each end and also at the ends of each colour stripes to give the impression that the colour stripes had been woven into the scarf.

It's a very easy pattern to follow, a perfect TV project! Not much concentration required!!!
I'll be sharing how to make it very soon.
